THIS IS MANGO
Introduction
The Marianas Alliance of Non-governmental Organizations (MANGO) is a 501(c)(3) and CNMI tax-exempt nonprofit established to address the critical need for resources in the nonprofit community of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). We are dedicated to providing guidance for starting and sustaining nonprofit organizations, obtaining tax-exempt status, pursuing funding opportunities, and giving the nonprofit sector a collective voice in local, regional, and international forums.
Our History
Founded in 2010 by a group of passionate community service advocates, MANGO has consistently focused on building a strong nonprofit community. Despite changes in board members over the last decade, our vision remains steadfast.
Key Milestones
In 2020, MANGO received a grant from the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) to implement the Lemmai-Mei Nonprofit Incubator Project. This three-year program supported 30 nonprofits through membership fees, workshops, financial and data management training, grant research and writing assistance, and individualized consultations to reduce organizational vulnerability.
Recent Developments
In 2022, MANGO expanded its team by adding staff with essential skills to enhance our capacity to serve the community. By providing leadership and technical assistance, we aim to transform CNMI nonprofits from vulnerable entities into thriving organizations. Our goal is to offer back-end support, allowing nonprofits to focus on their core missions and achieve greater success.
Our Vision and Mission
We believe that strengthening the CNMI’s nonprofit sector is more critical than ever. The nonprofit sector has the potential to access untapped funds and provide essential community services, filling gaps in partnership with government programs. This translates to new funding opportunities, job creation, and a healthier CNMI. Our mission is to equip the community with the knowledge and tools to build strong, sustainable nonprofits. This effort is not a quick-fix solution but one rooted in long-term sustainability.
Current and Future Initiatives
Our focus in 2024 is our “Giving Voice to Native Nonprofits” project, which aims to enhance nonprofit business inclusion in state planning activities. We are also developing a comprehensive database of CNMI nonprofits and teaching effective program data management. These initiatives will facilitate future resource acquisition and foster public-private partnerships involving the business community and state agencies.
